In a significant breakthrough, Nagpur police arrested 35-year-old Clement Eugene Pillay, also known as Rohit, on Sunday in Wardha after a two-day search. Pillay is accused of attacking two elderly women, both aged 82, in separate incidents. His arrest followed a meticulous investigation that utilized CCTV footage, railway booking records, and other investigative methods to track his movements.

The police's investigation revealed a disturbing pattern of behavior. Pillay allegedly contacted women through matrimonial websites, luring them with promises of marriage before exploiting them financially and physically. His modus operandi involved severing ties after gaining their trust. The police believe that his arrest could potentially solve at least five other crimes, including a jewelry shop heist and a rape case.

The attacks on the elderly women occurred within a week of each other, with the first incident involving the mother of Raja Sharif in Ahbab Colony and the second involving Hilda Alexander in Gaddigodam. The police connected these incidents through Pillay's unique gait, which was identified in CCTV footage from various locations, including railway stations and lodges.

Senior Inspector Shubhangi Deshmukh noted that Pillay was linked to a theft of Rs 6.5 lakh at a jewelry shop in Sadar, where he had a prior acquaintance. Investigators discovered that a financial dispute had arisen between Pillay and the jeweler, suggesting that his crimes were often motivated by personal grudges. The police suspect that Pillay attacked Sharif’s mother due to a perceived connection to a case in Madhya Pradesh.

Clement Pillay was also wanted in a rape case in the Gittikhadan area. Reports indicate that he would befriend women online, encourage them to take loans, and live with them temporarily before disappearing. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Aggarwal, stated that Pillay had stopped using his mobile phone about a month prior, complicating traditional tracking methods. The police pieced together his movements through various CCTV feeds, ultimately leading to his capture in a Wardha lodge where he was using a false identity.
