In a disturbing case from Nagpur, the Pratapnagar police have filed charges against a 46-year-old man for allegedly raping a 37-year-old woman under the false pretense of marriage. The incident reportedly took place over an extended period, during which the woman insisted on marriage, only to be met with threats and refusal from the accused.
According to the police complaint, the woman became pregnant three times throughout their relationship, leading her to undergo abortions on each occasion. The accused is said to have taken her to various hotels where they engaged in sexual relations, further complicating the situation. Senior Inspector Pankaj Bondse from the Ranapratap Nagar Police Station noted that the accused also subjected the survivor to physical abuse.
The complaint details that the man not only coerced the woman into sexual acts but also threatened her when she demanded that he fulfill his promise of marriage. This pattern of manipulation and violence has raised serious concerns about the safety and rights of women in similar situations.
The charges filed against the accused include rape under the guise of marriage, voluntary bodily harm, and criminal intimidation, among other offenses. At the time the complaint was registered, the accused had not yet been apprehended, prompting further investigations by local authorities.
This case highlights the urgent need for legal reforms and better protective measures for women facing such predicaments. As the investigation continues, the community is left to ponder the implications of such incidents on public safety and women's rights in Nagpur and beyond.
