In preparation for the Maharashtra Legislative Council biennial elections, the Nagpur district administration has officially designated October 21, 22, 23, and 27 as dry days. This decision, announced on October 16, aims to maintain the integrity of the electoral process by prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages during critical voting and counting periods.
The restrictions will be in effect from 4 PM on October 21 until 4 PM on October 23, coinciding with the polling day on October 23, when voters will cast their ballots from 8 AM to 4 PM. Additionally, liquor sales will be banned on October 27, the day designated for counting the votes, until the counting is fully completed.
The order encompasses all licensed liquor establishments in the Nagpur district, including country liquor shops, foreign liquor retail outlets, and beer and wine shops. The administration has emphasized that these measures are crucial for ensuring a peaceful and fair election environment, free from the influence of alcohol.
Officials have warned that any license holders found in violation of this order will face strict legal action under the relevant provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. This underscores the administration's commitment to uphold the democratic process and ensure that elections are conducted without disturbances.
As the election date approaches, the district administration is urging residents to comply with these regulations to facilitate a smooth electoral process. The community is reminded of the importance of participating in the elections responsibly and ensuring that the democratic process is respected.
