In a decisive move against cybercrime, the Nagpur City Cyber Police have successfully arrested seven suspects within a week, thanks to the collaborative efforts of four specialized teams operating across different cities. This operation has uncovered multiple cases of cyber fraud, including voice cloning, digital impersonation, and fraudulent investment schemes.

The investigations have revealed alarming instances of fraud, such as a case where a Nagpur resident lost ₹50 lakh due to a sophisticated voice cloning scheme. Cybercriminals utilized artificial intelligence to mimic the voice of a well-known individual, creating a fabricated emergency to solicit funds. The suspect was tracked down to Indore, Madhya Pradesh, and apprehended on October 28, with two mobile devices confiscated during the arrest.

Another significant incident involved a resident of Bajaj Nagar, who was defrauded of approximately ₹32.87 crore through fake online trading platforms. The victim was drawn in by misleading investment ads on Instagram and was subsequently added to a fraudulent trading group promising high returns. Following this, two additional suspects were arrested in Mumbai on October 30, with investigations indicating ties to international fraud networks based in Hong Kong and Dubai.

In a separate case, a Nagpur individual was threatened by impostors posing as officials from the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The fraudsters claimed the victim had terrorist connections and coerced him into transferring ₹1.04 crore through multiple bank accounts under the guise of a digital arrest. Two suspects were also arrested in Mumbai in connection with this case on October 28.

The cumulative financial impact of these four cases is estimated at ₹34.51 crore. The operations were conducted under the supervision of senior Nagpur Police officials, including Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil and Joint Commissioner Navinchandra Reddy. This crackdown underscores the increasing sophistication of cybercriminals, who are leveraging advanced technologies and social engineering tactics to exploit unsuspecting victims.
