In a shocking case that has gripped Nagpur, a 19-year-old man from Thane remains incarcerated at Nagpur Central Jail following his arrest over two months ago for the alleged kidnapping and brutal assault of a 16-year-old girl. His bail application was recently denied, and authorities are preparing for a swift trial under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The Hudkeshwar police submitted a comprehensive 550-page chargesheet in late September, which includes testimonies from 40 witnesses and various pieces of evidence collected during the investigation. However, the inquiry is still ongoing, with investigators awaiting forensic reports on electronic devices that were confiscated during the operation. A supplementary chargesheet is expected to be filed once these findings are available.

Police officials believe that the digital evidence could be pivotal in establishing the timeline of events and identifying any additional victims of the accused's alleged actions. The seized devices are currently being scrutinized for information that could bolster the prosecution's case and reveal more about the accused's conduct.

The case first came to public attention on August 3, when police rescued the minor from a rented flat in Dighori, where she had reportedly been held captive for over 24 hours and subjected to extreme physical and sexual abuse. Officers discovered a harrowing scene, with the girl found tied to a bed, bleeding, and in a state of distress. The accused was apprehended the following day.

After his arrest, the accused claimed he was mistreated by police, prompting a medical examination at Government Medical College and Hospital. Following treatment, he was transferred to Nagpur Central Jail, where he remains in judicial custody. Recently, a court rejected his lawyer's bail application, as well as a request to move the case to a different court.

In the meantime, efforts are being made to assist the survivor in her recovery. With the help of psychologists and counselors facilitated by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), she has returned to school and is preparing for her upcoming examinations. The CWC has also suggested family counseling to support both the girl and her family as they navigate the aftermath of this traumatic event. Reports indicate that the survivor is responding positively to the assistance she is receiving. As the investigation continues, the analysis of the electronic devices is anticipated to play a crucial role in the case's progression toward trial.
