In a troubling development, at least eight bullion traders in Nagpur's Sarafa Bazar have received threatening letters demanding Rs 10 lakh each, purportedly from the infamous Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The police are currently investigating these threats, suspecting that local criminals might be impersonating the gang to intimidate traders.

The extortion letters, which began arriving four to five days ago, instructed the traders to display a specific slogan outside their shops as a sign of compliance. The messages also included dire warnings, threatening harm to the traders and their families if they failed to meet the demands or reported the threats to law enforcement.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rahul Madne confirmed that discussions have taken place with the affected traders, who are prepared to file formal complaints. An official case will be registered at the Tehsil Police Station, and investigations are ongoing to ascertain the identities of those responsible for the threats.

Authorities believe that the use of the Bishnoi gang's name is a tactic employed by local criminals to instill fear and extract money from the traders. This situation has raised significant concerns within the local business community, as the safety and security of traders are paramount for the economic stability of the area.

Moving forward, police are ramping up their efforts to identify the culprits behind these threats and ensure the safety of the traders. Further updates on the investigation are expected as authorities work to address this alarming situation in Nagpur.
