In a surprising turn of events during the Women’s U19 T20 Trophy quarter-final held on October 22 in Nagpur, a monkey interrupted the match between Karnataka and Vidarbha. The incident occurred when the monkey dashed onto the field, startling Karnataka fielder Uma Kashvi, who lost her balance while trying to evade the animal. This unexpected disruption added a moment of levity to the otherwise intense competition.
Despite the brief pause, Kashvi quickly regained her focus and continued to play, contributing to Karnataka's eventual victory. The match resumed with both teams determined to secure a win, culminating in Karnataka's narrow triumph by six runs, allowing them to advance to the semi-finals.
Karnataka's success can be attributed to Uma Kashvi's outstanding bowling performance, where she recorded 3 wickets for just 18 runs in 4 overs. Batting first, Karnataka set a target of 140 runs, despite early setbacks that saw them at 65 for 5. A vital partnership between Kushi Suryakanth, who scored 33 not out, and Inchara Umesh helped stabilize the innings, leading to a competitive total.
Vidarbha's chase started well but faltered as Karnataka's bowlers consistently took wickets. Swara Thakare remained unbeaten with 32 runs, while Sakshi Bhupal added 25 runs. Ultimately, Vidarbha fell short, finishing their innings at 134 runs for 7 wickets, resulting in a well-deserved victory for Karnataka.
Looking ahead, Karnataka is set to face Baroda in the semi-finals on October 24 at the Lady Amritbai Daga College Ground in Nagpur. This upcoming match is highly anticipated as both teams vie for a spot in the final. Additionally, Uma Kashvi's impressive performance has drawn attention as she prepares for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 auction, where she hopes to make a mark in her burgeoning cricket career. As Karnataka progresses in the tournament, they aim to build on their success and pursue the championship title.
