On Tuesday morning, a serious incident unfolded at Nagpur Central Jail when a judicial prisoner, identified as Vijay Nandlal Rehangdale, was allegedly assaulted by two fellow inmates. The attack took place in the Chhoti Gol section of the prison, specifically between Barracks 7 and 8, during a time frame from approximately 9:40 am to 10:20 am.

Rehangdale had just visited the Hanuman temple located within the jail premises to offer prayers. As he was making his way back to his barrack around 9:40 am, he was reportedly confronted by inmates Durgesh alias Little Pramod Gupta and Ashwin alias Acchi Mukund Indurkar. Without any apparent provocation, the two inmates allegedly launched an unprovoked attack on Rehangdale, kicking and punching him, and even striking him with a plastic bucket, resulting in a head injury.

The disturbance caused by the assault prompted a swift response from jail staff. Prison constable Manoj Balu Dhanwat and other personnel rushed to the scene to intervene. They managed to separate the assailants from Rehangdale, who was subsequently taken to the jail hospital for necessary medical treatment following the incident.

In a related development, another inmate, Surendra alias Monu Manoj Samudre, reportedly created a disturbance inside the jail after the assault on Rehangdale. Although not involved in the initial attack, Samudre allegedly confronted jail staff, threatening them when they attempted to calm him down. This behavior raised further concerns regarding inmate conduct within the facility.

In response to these incidents, the Dhantoli Police have registered a case against the three inmates under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police are now conducting a thorough investigation into both the assault on Rehangdale and the subsequent confrontation involving Samudre, aiming to ensure safety and order within the prison environment.
