During a recent address, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari expressed serious concerns regarding the urban planning crisis in central Nagpur, particularly in areas like Itwari, Gandhibagh, and Mahal. He likened the city's traffic issues to a 90% blockage in the heart, emphasizing that without significant reforms, the situation could lead to dire consequences for urban mobility.

Gadkari pointed out that unregulated construction has severely impacted the city's infrastructure, stating that illegal buildings have proliferated in every lane, often without adequate parking facilities. This has resulted in significant challenges for emergency services, as ambulances struggle to navigate congested streets. He criticized local public representatives for allowing encroachments that further exacerbate the problem.

Highlighting ongoing infrastructure projects, Gadkari mentioned that efforts are underway to improve road conditions, including the four-laning of roads from Mayo Hospital to Harihar Mandir and the clearing of key junctions like Shaheed Chowk and Teen Nal Chowk. He noted that while these projects are essential for enhancing connectivity, the removal of encroachments is critical for achieving lasting improvements in traffic flow.

The minister also shared a personal anecdote about the positive impact of recent infrastructure developments, specifically the new bridge from Kamal Talkies to Dighori. He noted that after the bridge's opening, he was able to travel from Mahal to Kamal Talkies Chowk in just seven minutes, arriving significantly earlier than expected for an event. This, he argued, is a testament to the potential benefits of effective urban planning and infrastructure investment.

Looking ahead, Gadkari stressed the importance of comprehensive urban planning reforms to prevent further deterioration of Nagpur's infrastructure. He called for collaboration among local authorities, citizens, and urban planners to create a sustainable and efficient urban environment that can accommodate the city's growth while ensuring public safety and accessibility.
