The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has announced that former Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar will serve as the chief guest at its Vijayadashami celebration scheduled for October 20 in Nagpur. This announcement has drawn criticism from the Congress party, which has pointed out the government's apparent neglect of Dhankhar following his resignation in July 2025.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh expressed concern over the government's treatment of Dhankhar, stating that despite receiving an invitation from the RSS, he has not been provided with official accommodation. Ramesh emphasized that this oversight reflects internal conflicts within the government and the RSS ecosystem, suggesting that they are struggling to maintain unity.
The Vijayadashami celebration, taking place at Reshimbagh Maidan, is a significant annual event for the RSS, commemorating its foundation day. This year’s gathering will also mark the end of the RSS's centenary celebrations, adding further importance to the occasion. RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat is expected to deliver a key address during the event.
Ramesh further criticized the government's actions, recalling how Dhankhar's resignation was accepted abruptly by Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah just minutes after it was submitted. He noted that Dhankhar had only held the vice-presidential position for three years before resigning due to health concerns, which he cited in his resignation letter.
Looking ahead, the RSS's Vijayadashami event is anticipated to attract significant attention, not only for its historical significance but also for the ongoing political discourse surrounding it. As the date approaches, the implications of Dhankhar's presence and the Congress's criticisms may continue to shape public perception and political narratives in the region.
