Sanjay Shirsat confirmed Shiv Sena's support for NCP's Satish Chavan amid political shifts.
Deputy CM Eknath Shinde called for support for Kiran Sarnaik at a campaign meeting.
In Nagpur, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis addressed the media on Sunday, highlighting the need for party leaders to ensure their legislators publicly support the alliance's position. He specifically referenced Shiv Sena minister Sanjay Shirsat's affirmation of support for NCP candidate Satish Chavan in the Aurangabad Graduates’ Constituency election, stating that individual dissent does not reflect the party's official stance.
Fadnavis's comments come in light of recent concerns regarding Chavan's potential loss of support from Shiv Sena due to shifting political dynamics in the Amravati Teachers Constituency. This constituency has seen tensions, particularly with NCP MLC Sanjay Khodke and MLA Sulbha Khodke reportedly backing an alternative candidate against Sena's Kiran Sarnaik. Shirsat's clarification on Saturday reaffirmed Shiv Sena's commitment to its allies, following assurances from NCP members to support Sarnaik.
The Chief Minister remarked, "Minister Shirsat said very clearly yesterday that we are with Mahayuti and with Chavan. BJP has been working for him from day one. If one person takes a different stand, it is not considered the party’s stand." Fadnavis also criticized the opposition, asserting that the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition has been fragmented and plagued by internal divisions, contrasting it with the unity within BJP and Mahayuti.
In a related development, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde urged educators to rally behind Kiran Sarnaik during a Mahayuti campaign event in Yavatmal. He emphasized the necessity of having a representative in the Legislative Council who is attuned to the challenges faced by teachers, praising Sarnaik's dedication to the educational community. Shinde also addressed concerns regarding the long-awaited Old Pension Scheme, assuring that the government is committed to resolving teachers' issues.
Looking ahead, the political landscape in Maharashtra remains dynamic as the elections approach. The focus will be on maintaining party cohesion among the alliance members, particularly in light of the recent tensions and the need for a unified front in the upcoming electoral battles.
