At the 17th convocation of the Adani Institute of Higher Education and Research (AIHER) held in Wardha, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis underscored the pivotal role of artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, and quantum computing in reshaping various sectors, particularly healthcare. He urged universities to evolve from traditional teaching roles to become hubs of innovation, reflecting the rapid advancements in technology that are transforming medical diagnosis and treatment.

Fadnavis highlighted how emerging technologies are enhancing the precision of medical procedures, making them less invasive, and facilitating earlier disease detection. He noted that advancements in drug discovery and technology are significantly improving cancer care. During the ceremony, he was honored as the first recipient of an honorary Doctor of Letters (DLitt) from AIHER, recognizing his contributions to public life and the field of education.

The Chief Minister pointed out the pressing health challenges India faces, including a rising prevalence of lifestyle-related diseases such as diabetes and cancer, alongside persistent issues like stunting and wasting among children. He stressed the importance of focused research in nutrition and maternal health to ensure that scientific advancements benefit vulnerable populations, particularly in remote areas. He expressed the hope that the next breakthrough in medical technology would originate from a university setting.

In addition to technological advancements, Fadnavis emphasized the significance of empathy and compassion in healthcare, stating that these human qualities distinguish individuals from AI and robots. He praised Dr. Abhijat Sheth, chairperson of the National Medical Commission, who received an honorary Doctor of Science (DSc) during the convocation, for his efforts in enhancing transparency and reform in medical education.

Fadnavis also commended AIHER for its commitment to invest ₹1,000 crore over the next five years in research and innovation. He encouraged graduates to embrace lifelong learning, urging them to be adaptable and to contribute positively to society. He concluded by redefining success not by financial gain but by the impact one has on the community.
