Enforcement Directorate Seizes ₹1.95 Crore from Prayag Developers in Nagpur
The Enforcement Directorate's recent raid on Prayag Developers led to the seizure of significant cash and the freezing of bank accounts.
ED conducted searches on October 26, uncovering ₹1.95 crore in cash.
Over ₹40 lakh in bank accounts were frozen, and properties linked to illegal activities were identified.
The investigation stems from FIRs related to alleged financial misconduct under the Indian Penal Code.
On October 26, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) executed searches at two locations in Nagpur associated with Prayag Developers & Builders, leading to the discovery of ₹1.95 crore in cash. The operation targeted the firm's proprietor, Shashank Govindprasad Pandey, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. Alongside the cash seizure, the ED also froze bank accounts totaling over ₹40 lakh and identified several properties believed to be acquired through illicit means.
The investigation was prompted by complaints filed at the Ajni and Ranapratapnagar police stations in Nagpur, alleging violations of Sections 418 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code. One notable case involves a development agreement concerning land owned by a senior citizen, where the developer was reportedly obligated to pay ₹1.75 crore and allocate 14 residential flats.
In addition to the cash and property seizures, the ED reported that 22 flats from the Divya Prayag Apartment project were mortgaged to Dewan Housing Finance Corporation (DHFL) for a loan of ₹22 crore, of which ₹11 crore had been disbursed. Allegations surfaced that these mortgaged flats were sold without the necessary no-objection certificate from the lender, and an affidavit for a home loan was submitted without disclosing the existing mortgage.
The ramifications of these actions extend beyond the immediate financial implications, as they raise concerns about regulatory compliance and the integrity of real estate transactions in Nagpur. The ED's findings could lead to broader scrutiny of similar developers in the region, potentially impacting the local real estate market and investor confidence.
As the investigation continues, the ED is expected to delve deeper into the financial activities of Prayag Developers and other related entities. Future developments may include further raids, additional seizures, and legal proceedings against those involved in the alleged financial misconduct.
