In a significant ruling, a sessions court in Nagpur sentenced Eknath Tapre, aged 35, to life imprisonment on Thursday for the murder of his neighbor, Aarti Giradkar, in 2020. The court's decision came after a dispute over car parking escalated into violence, leading to Giradkar's death.

The tragic incident took place on June 24, 2020, around 9:30 PM, when Aarti, 34, was attempting to park her vehicle near her residence. An argument ensued, during which Tapre allegedly retrieved a knife from his home and fatally stabbed Aarti. Following the attack, her husband, Nitin Giradkar, promptly reported the incident to the Nandanvan police, resulting in Tapre's arrest the next day.

During the court proceedings, District and Additional Sessions Judge SH Gwalani found Tapre guilty and not only imposed a life sentence but also levied a fine of Rs 25,000. Additionally, Tapre received a six-month prison term for failing to pay the fine and another six months for intentional insult. The prosecution was represented by Public Prosecutor Sai Khedkar, while the charge sheet was filed by Senior PI Sandipan Pawar.

Authorities revealed that Tapre has a troubling criminal history, with 34 serious cases registered against him at both Nandanvan and Sakkardara police stations. This background raised concerns about his behavior and the potential risks he posed to the community.

The court's verdict serves as a stern warning against violent behavior stemming from trivial disputes. It emphasizes the need for peaceful conflict resolution and the legal system's commitment to addressing violent crimes. As the community reflects on this case, it highlights the ongoing challenges of ensuring safety in neighborhoods plagued by violence and criminal activity.
