In a significant drug bust, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) apprehended a 19-year-old student late Friday, seizing approximately 2 kg of high-grade amphetamine valued at around ₹1.55 crore from a bus traveling from Bhopal to Nagpur. The young man was allegedly carrying the drugs in a shoulder bag, with plans to transport them further to Bengaluru for delivery.

The investigation revealed that the suspect had first journeyed from Delhi to Bhopal before transferring to the bus heading to Nagpur. During initial questioning, he reportedly indicated that he intended to board another bus to Bengaluru. Authorities suspect that he may be linked to an interstate drug trafficking network, raising concerns about the broader implications of this case.

This latest seizure follows a series of significant amphetamine recoveries in the region. In August 2023, DRI officials confiscated three kg of an amphetamine-type substance worth over ₹24 crore at Nagpur airport from a passenger arriving from Nairobi via Sharjah. In that incident, the drugs were concealed within a hollow metal roller, leading to the arrest of an alleged recipient in Delhi.

Additionally, on September 27, DRI agents seized one kg of amphetamine valued at approximately ₹1.05 crore from a woman on the Hazrat Nizamuddin–Bengaluru Rajdhani Express at Nagpur railway station. These incidents highlight the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in combating drug trafficking in the region.

The current investigation is now focused on unraveling the suspected supply chain, identifying the source of manufacture, and determining the intended recipients of the drugs in South India. Authorities are working diligently to address the growing issue of drug trafficking and its impact on public safety.
