A cab driver’s information was crucial in narrowing down their whereabouts.
In a significant breakthrough, police apprehended model and social media influencer Shraddha Dubey along with her associates in Nagpur on October 20. This arrest was made possible through a combination of WhatsApp call tracking, internet connection details, and a vital tip from a cab driver who had transported them. The investigation is linked to the death of Lucknow restaurateur Shiva Sharma, who fell from a fourth-floor apartment on October 9.
Prior to their arrest, Dubey and her companions managed to evade law enforcement for several days by continuously shifting their locations. Their strategy complicated the police's efforts, as they relied on technical surveillance to track the internet connections used for their WhatsApp communications. Investigators noted that it typically took around 14 to 15 hours to obtain these connection details, which often placed them several hours behind the suspects.
The investigation gained traction when police identified a cab driver who had driven the trio to Nagpur. During the ride, Dubey reportedly used the driver’s mobile phone for WhatsApp calls and accessed the internet via a hotspot provided by him. After dropping them off in Nagpur late on October 19, the cab driver waited outside a hotel for another passenger, which ultimately led police to him. His information significantly narrowed the search area for the suspects.
Following this lead, police intensified their surveillance in Nagpur, anticipating another WhatsApp call that could reveal the suspects' precise location. Their efforts paid off when Dubey allegedly made a call, allowing investigators to trace the signal to a flat in the Pro-Zone Calm apartment complex in Chinchbhan. Officers arrived at the location on the afternoon of October 20, but the occupants initially refused to open the door. With assistance from local authorities, police eventually gained entry and arrested Dubey, her sister Rashmi, and the cab driver Danish.
The trio was subsequently transported back to Lucknow. The case surrounding Shiva Sharma's death remains under investigation, with police having previously announced a reward of ₹50,000 for information leading to the suspects' capture. As the investigation unfolds, authorities are expected to delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding Sharma's tragic fall.
