In a significant revelation, the Congress party has reported alarming discrepancies in the electoral roll for the Nagpur division graduates’ constituency. On Thursday, party officials claimed that more than 22,000 voters were associated with a single mobile number, raising concerns about the integrity of the electoral process. The party's chief spokesperson, Atul Londhe, made these assertions during a press conference, emphasizing the need for immediate investigation and corrective measures.
The Congress party has taken formal steps by approaching divisional commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidari and submitting complaints to both the State Election Commission and the Election Commission of India. Londhe specifically pointed out that the mobile number 5432154321 was linked to approximately 22,000 voters. Furthermore, he revealed that 8,744 names were found to be duplicated in the electoral listings, urging voters to cast their ballots at only one polling station to avoid complications.
In an effort to address these issues, the Congress party has communicated the details of the duplicate entries to key election officials, including Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Chief Electoral Officer S Chockalingam. Londhe stated, "We have sought an end to the practice. No one should be under the impression that they can vote twice," highlighting the party's commitment to ensuring a fair electoral process.
Londhe also expressed concerns regarding the functioning of constitutional institutions, alleging that the Election Commission is operating under undue pressure. He called for impartiality in the upcoming elections, asserting that the Congress party is dedicated to facilitating free and fair polls. The party's efforts have garnered support from 48 organizations, including educational associations, indicating a broader coalition advocating for electoral integrity in the Graduates’ Constituency election.
Looking ahead, the Congress party is expected to continue its advocacy for electoral reform and transparency, with further actions planned to address these discrepancies. The party aims to ensure that the electoral process remains untainted and that voters can exercise their rights without fear of irregularities.
