Next court hearing scheduled after March 2027

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has assured the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court that the remaining construction on the Nagpur-Katol National Highway will be completed by March 2027. This commitment was made during a recent hearing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) focused on the delayed road improvement work on the highway.

The court proceedings were linked to an earlier order issued on February 25, 2026, which required the NHAI to provide updates on the status of the highway work. In an affidavit submitted on February 23, 2026, the NHAI indicated that Defect Rectification Notices had been sent to the contractors involved, namely Agrawal Global Infratech Private Limited and Joint-Stock Company Industrial Association ‘Vozrozhdenie’. These notices mandated that the contractors address the outstanding work within a 60-day timeframe.

During the hearing, NHAI's legal representative, Adv Anish Kathane, informed the court that Agrawal Global Infratech has been granted an extension until December 31, 2026, to fulfill the remaining obligations. Conversely, the contract with Joint-Stock Company Industrial Association ‘Vozrozhdenie’ was terminated due to inadequate progress on the project. The NHAI plans to oversee the completion of the work initially assigned to this contractor directly.

The implications of this development are significant for the local community and commuters relying on the Nagpur-Katol route. The timely completion of the highway is expected to enhance connectivity and improve travel safety in the region. The assurance from NHAI comes as a relief to many stakeholders who have been awaiting progress on this critical infrastructure project.

Looking ahead, the court has scheduled its next hearing for after March 2027, directing the NHAI to submit a new affidavit that outlines the progress made and compliance with previous court orders. This will ensure continued oversight of the project as it approaches its completion date.
