Concerns raised over alleged electoral irregularities and transparency.
On Saturday, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) organized a Tiranga Rally in Nagpur, starting from Lokmat Chowk and concluding at Variety Square. The rally was marked by participants waving the national flag and chanting slogans, as they called for the release of detained party leaders Saurabh Das and Ashutosh Ranka, while also voicing concerns regarding alleged electoral irregularities.
The event saw a significant police presence along the route, ensuring order as the protesters marched with the Tricolour. Harish Gurbani, a participant, expressed frustration over restrictions on such demonstrations, stating, "Since when has waving the Tiranga become a sin?" He emphasized the historical significance of the flag, linking it to the sacrifices made by revolutionaries for the nation.
The protesters also directed their demands towards the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar, the Chief Election Commissioner of India, and called for the repeal of the Election Commissioners Appointment Act of 2023. They insisted on the need for an independent and transparent Election Commission to restore public trust in the electoral process. Allegations of widespread irregularities, including discrepancies in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and voter lists, were highlighted by the demonstrators.
Participants voiced their concerns about the integrity of the electoral process, claiming that during the current administration, issues such as leaked question papers and vote tampering have emerged. One protester pointed out that approximately three crore individuals were excluded from the voter list during the SIR, questioning whether the ongoing hearings would be halted.
The CJP is advocating for a rollback of the 2024 voter list, accusing authorities of compromising electoral transparency. Throughout the march, the protesters called for accountability and the safeguarding of democratic rights, emphasizing the importance of fair elections in maintaining the integrity of the democratic process.
