In a tragic incident in Nagpur's Pardi area, a 35-year-old man from Chhattisgarh died after being severely beaten by a mob. The man was accused of sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl, prompting local residents to take matters into their own hands late Monday night.
According to police reports, the accused, identified as Vaishnav, lured the young girl to his rented accommodation near the Maskeraya Ganpati mandal. After the girl raised an alarm, relatives and nearby residents apprehended Vaishnav and subjected him to a brutal beating. The incident occurred in Shivnagar, an area predominantly inhabited by migrant workers.
Pardi police received a call around 10:30 PM and found Vaishnav conscious but in distress when they arrived. Initial assessments indicated he did not have severe injuries; however, his condition worsened, and he was pronounced dead by doctors at approximately 2:50 PM the following day. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday to determine the exact cause of death and the nature of his injuries.
Initially, the police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, later classifying it as an accidental death. They also filed a separate case against unidentified individuals involved in the mob attack. Zonal Deputy Commissioner of Police Nityanand Jha stated that Vaishnav showed no signs of serious injury when taken to the hospital, and they are awaiting the autopsy results before proceeding with legal actions.
Law enforcement officials have formed multiple teams to identify the assailants and are currently analyzing CCTV footage from the area. They are also investigating whether any bystanders recorded the incident on their mobile devices. Senior police personnel have reiterated that taking the law into one's own hands is unacceptable, urging residents to contact emergency services instead of resorting to violence.
