The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) conducted a significant outreach program in Nagpur on October 16, 2026, focusing on recent reforms in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) framework. The event aimed to engage with GST taxpayers and industry representatives to discuss procedural changes and gather insights regarding their implementation.
CBIC Chairman Vivek Chaturvedi, along with Member (GST) Sanjay Mangal, led the discussions, emphasizing the importance of the reforms recommended during the 57th GST Council meeting. The outreach program provided a platform for stakeholders to voice their concerns and suggestions, reflecting the CBIC's commitment to enhancing the ease of doing business and fostering a transparent GST environment.
During the session, the CBIC Chairman highlighted critical reforms aimed at improving taxpayer experience, including the withdrawal of arrest provisions under GST, raising the prosecution threshold, and implementing automated refund systems. Additionally, he discussed stricter controls on vehicle inspections, which would now require authorization from a Joint Commissioner-level officer, ensuring that inspections are conducted only in the originating and destination states.
The program saw participation from over 140 representatives, including members from the Nag Vidarbha Chamber of Commerce, Vidarbha Industries Association, and other trade bodies. Participants expressed appreciation for the GST Council's reform initiatives and sought clarifications on various aspects of the recent changes, which were addressed by the CBIC officials.
Looking ahead, the CBIC plans to introduce a centralized administration framework for GST taxpayers and faceless assessments, with a draft framework to be shared for public feedback soon. The engagement with stakeholders is expected to continue as the CBIC seeks to refine its policies based on industry input.
