Chandrashekhar Bawankule, a senior leader of the BJP and Maharashtra minister, announced on Thursday that the party will conduct a thorough review of its recent defeat in the Nagpur Graduates' constituency during the Legislative Council elections. Bawankule highlighted the significance of this seat for the BJP, noting that extensive planning had been undertaken to secure a victory. Accepting the electoral outcome, he stated, "We will introspect to understand the reasons for the defeat."

Taking personal accountability for the loss, Bawankule mentioned that efforts were made by party workers to engage with voters in the Graduates' constituency. He acknowledged that despite their hard work, there were apparent shortcomings that led to the defeat. When questioned about the support from the Shiv Sena, a partner in the Mahayuti alliance, he refrained from assigning blame, opting instead to focus on reviewing the performance of all alliance partners.

Bawankule pointed to the Amravati constituency as a contrasting example, where the Shiv Sena leader and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde sought assistance from the BJP, resulting in active campaigning by BJP MLAs and MPs for the alliance candidate. He noted, however, that coordination among the alliance partners was lacking in some areas, which would be a topic of discussion among the three Mahayuti partners.

The BJP will also investigate whether the directives from party leadership were effectively communicated and followed at the grassroots level. Bawankule emphasized the need to identify any individuals who may have acted against the party's interests or the coalition's understanding, suggesting that reprimands would be issued as necessary. In contrast, he mentioned that the Pune Teachers' constituency saw a friendly competition between alliance partners, which ultimately resulted in a BJP victory.

The elections for the Pune Graduates', Nagpur Graduates', Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Graduates', Pune Teachers', and Amravati Teachers' constituencies were held on October 23, with vote counting commencing on October 27 and results announced on October 28. The Mahayuti alliance comprises the BJP, Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena, and the Nationalist Congress Party led by Sunetra Pawar.
