Polling for the legislative council elections is set for October 23.
In a significant political development in Nagpur, independent candidate Anil Sole has announced his support for the BJP's official nominee, Sudhakar Kohale, ahead of the legislative council elections scheduled for October 23. This decision follows a personal meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who reached out to Sole to discuss his grievances regarding the party's ticket allocation.
Sole, who previously served as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), had initially filed his nomination papers as an independent candidate after being denied a ticket by the BJP. His candidacy was seen as a challenge to Kohale, the party's chosen candidate. However, after a constructive dialogue with Fadnavis at Sole's residence, the former MLC decided to withdraw his candidacy and support the BJP's efforts.
During the media interaction post-meeting, Chief Minister Fadnavis expressed optimism about addressing Sole's concerns, stating, "I had a very positive discussion with Sole, and I tried to understand his grievances. His concerns will be addressed." Sole reciprocated the sentiment, highlighting the importance of party unity and his commitment to ensuring Kohale's victory in the upcoming elections.
The Nagpur division graduate constituency elections are part of a larger biennial election process for five seats in the Legislative Council, which includes three graduates and two teachers' constituencies. The Congress party has re-nominated sitting MLC Abhijeet Wanjari to contest in this election, adding to the competitive landscape.
As the election date approaches, registered graduates and teachers within the Nagpur division are preparing to cast their votes. The counting of votes will take place on October 27, marking a crucial moment for the candidates involved and their respective parties as they vie for representation in the 78-member Legislative Council.
