Vidarbha is enduring an exceptionally hot October, with temperatures significantly exceeding normal levels due to dry conditions and a lack of rainfall. On Tuesday, Amravati recorded a staggering 39.6°C, marking it as the highest temperature among Vidarbha's weather stations and surpassing the previous October record of 39.5°C.

The heatwave persisted into Wednesday, with various locations across the region reporting elevated temperatures. Wardha recorded 37.6°C, Akola reached 37.9°C, Yavatmal hit 38.2°C, Chandrapur noted 37.2°C, and Nagpur reported a maximum of 36.4°C. Notably, Nagpur's temperature was 2.8°C above the normal average, while Wardha and Yavatmal exceeded their averages by 4.7°C and 6.2°C, respectively.

This unusual heat is occurring in the context of a deficient monsoon in Vidarbha, which has seen a 27% shortfall in rainfall this season. The monsoon withdrawal is already in progress, contributing to the dry spell. In Nagpur, the daytime heat has been particularly intense, with clear skies and no rainfall, leading to uncomfortable conditions for residents. The minimum temperature recorded in Nagpur on Wednesday was 22°C, indicating warm nights as well.

Meteorological factors, including an anti-cyclonic circulation, have played a significant role in the prevailing dry weather and limited cloud formation, resulting in a sharp increase in daytime temperatures. Observations from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday confirmed that no rainfall was recorded at any major Vidarbha weather stations. The combination of deficient rainfall, dry air, and clear skies has led to temperatures rising several degrees above normal, exacerbating the October heat.

Despite the IMD issuing a thunderstorm and lightning warning for Vidarbha on Wednesday, actual precipitation was minimal, leaving the region to grapple with the ongoing heatwave. As the situation develops, residents are advised to stay hydrated and take precautions against the heat.
