In a rapid response to a homicide, the local crime branch and Khallar police in Amravati successfully solved the murder of a 45-year-old man within just four hours on Saturday. The victim, Deepak Atmaram Umbarekar, was discovered with fatal stab wounds at his residence in Nalawada, Daryapur taluka, prompting immediate police action.
Upon arrival at the scene, authorities conducted a thorough examination, revealing multiple sharp weapon injuries to the victim's abdomen and significant bloodstains throughout the area. The Khallar police and the local crime branch initiated parallel investigations to uncover the circumstances surrounding the crime.
Through technical analysis and intelligence gathering, investigators identified the primary suspect as 19-year-old Sumit Hiralal, also known as Harish Bhonde, who had reportedly fled the scene. Following a tip-off, police located him in Balgaon, Amravati, where he was taken into custody. Initial questioning revealed that Bhonde attempted to mislead the investigators, but he eventually confessed to the crime after prolonged interrogation.
Bhonde disclosed that he had a longstanding feud with Umbarekar. On the night of the murder, around 2 AM, he and a juvenile accomplice entered the victim's home and attacked him with a knife. Both suspects have since been arrested and are now in the custody of Khallar police, facing legal proceedings.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Nikesh Kadam and Additional SP Abhishek, with key contributions from LCB PI Dattatray Mundhe and API Mangesh Tkade.
