Amravati Celebrates Asian Games Medalists Kumkum and Yashdeep
The district honors archers Kumkum Mohod and Yashdeep Bhoge with a grand welcome after their success at the Asian Games.

Amravati welcomed its champions on Monday as Kumkum Mohod and Yashdeep Bhoge returned home after their remarkable performances at the Asian Games in Japan. Kumkum clinched two gold medals and one silver in archery, while Yashdeep earned a silver medal in his event. The district administration organized a grand reception to celebrate their achievements, showcasing the community's pride in their local athletes.
The festivities began with an open jeep victory parade that stretched from Rajkamal Square to Irwin Square. Citizens participated enthusiastically, dancing to drumbeats and lighting firecrackers to express their joy. Local dignitaries, including Rajya Sabha MP Anil Bonde and MLA Sulbha Khodke, were present to honor the athletes. The event also saw participation from students of Manibai Gujarati High School, where Kumkum is enrolled, as well as members of various sports organizations and local sports enthusiasts.
Upon reaching Irwin Square, both athletes paid their respects at the statue of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, a significant figure in Indian history. MP Anil Bonde praised Kumkum and Yashdeep for their accomplishments, stating that they embody the pride of Amravati. He also acknowledged Bharati Fulmali, a gold medalist in women's cricket, who was unable to attend the event; her father was honored in her stead.
MLA Sulbha Khodke emphasized the inspirational nature of the athletes' success, predicting that their achievements would motivate the younger generation to pursue excellence in sports. Kumkum expressed her gratitude for the support she received from her teammates and the Archery Association, attributing her focus during the competition to her determination to perform well. Additionally, she was announced as the recipient of the Yashpal Rana Award, further recognizing her outstanding contributions to the sport.
Looking ahead, the community is hopeful that the success of Kumkum and Yashdeep will pave the way for more athletes from Amravati to shine on international platforms.
