In a shocking incident in Nagpur, an 82-year-old woman named Rafiya Sharif was violently assaulted by dacoits who invaded her home late Thursday night. The assailants managed to escape with gold jewelry worth ₹15 lakh and ₹10 lakh in cash, leaving Rafiya with serious injuries. The attack occurred shortly after her son, Raja, left their residence in Ahbab Colony around 11:23 PM, following a call from a friend.
According to reports, the dacoits spent approximately 25 minutes ransacking the house. They entered through an open door just minutes after Raja departed, indicating a possible premeditated plan. Neighbors reported seeing a tall man in a red T-shirt lurking nearby prior to the attack. Rafiya was struck multiple times with a wooden plank, resulting in severe injuries to her head and limbs. Despite her injuries, she managed to drag herself outside to seek help.
Raja Sharif, 36, a contractor, returned home shortly after the incident and discovered the aftermath of the brutal attack. He reported to the police that a significant amount of cash, including ₹9 lakh withdrawn from a fixed deposit, was missing, along with various gold ornaments. The dacoits not only stole valuable items but also forced Rafiya to wear imitation jewelry before fleeing the scene.
The local police, led by Inspector Sarang Mirasi, have registered a robbery FIR at the Gittikhadan police station. They are exploring the possibility of an inside job, as Raja has provided names of individuals who have worked in their home and a regular cook who visits. Investigators are considering whether someone familiar with Rafiya's routine tipped off the robbers. Additionally, the key CCTV camera across the street malfunctioned, but police have managed to recover some footage to aid in their investigation.
As the community grapples with the aftermath of this violent crime, the police are intensifying their efforts to apprehend the suspects. Joint police commissioner Navinchandra Reddy, along with crime branch teams, visited the Sharif residence to oversee the investigation. The incident has left residents of Ahbab Colony on edge, highlighting the need for increased security measures in the area.
