In a troubling incident at the Govt Secondary and Higher Secondary Ashram School in Jambhulghat, Chandrapur, approximately 80 students were found with partially tonsured heads following a haircut session that took place on Saturday. The situation has resulted in the suspension of the headmaster, PS Giri, and an inquiry into the actions of the superintendent, PK Atram.

Reports indicate that Atram ordered the barber to partially shave the heads of 82 students to ensure they remained seated for their turn, rather than leaving the session to play. However, the barber's trimmer ran out of battery, leaving many students with incomplete haircuts. This incident prompted immediate action from the Tribal Development Department after images of the students surfaced online, prompting concerns about the treatment of the children.

Initial investigations revealed that four students had previously raised concerns with Giri, but he allegedly did not address the issue adequately. The department's findings also highlighted lapses in administrative control, including violations of a ban on mobile phone usage by students. Consequently, Giri was suspended under the Maharashtra Civil Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1979, pending further disciplinary action.

The haircut session, which began on Saturday morning, was intended to address hygiene issues, as some students were reportedly suffering from dandruff and heat-related skin conditions. However, after the partial haircuts were completed, the superintendent was instructed to ensure that all students received uniform haircuts. The remaining haircuts were conducted late into the night, with students reportedly being awakened to complete the process.

Moving forward, the Integrated Tribal Development Officer in Chimur has submitted an initial report to the upper commissioner in the Tribal Development Department. Further actions will be determined based on the final findings of the inquiry, as officials seek to address the concerns raised by this incident and ensure the well-being of the students involved.
