NAGPUR: In anticipation of the Dhammachakra Pravartan Din and Dussehra celebrations, Nagpur Police have mobilized around 5,000 officers to maintain order and security throughout the city. The primary focus will be on Deekshabhoomi, which is expected to draw thousands of devotees, necessitating heightened vigilance and preparedness.
Deekshabhoomi, the epicenter of the celebrations, will see the deployment of over 1,500 police personnel, including 71 officers, two Deputy Commissioners, and various ranks of inspectors. The presence of a unit from the State Reserve Police Force will further bolster security in the area. In addition, CCTV cameras have been strategically placed at critical locations to monitor activities, while drones will assist in overseeing crowd dynamics and identifying any suspicious behavior.
The police have outlined a protocol for managing large crowds, indicating that if the number of attendees exceeds the venue's capacity, they may temporarily hold followers at designated areas until space becomes available inside Deekshabhoomi. Another significant location, Dragon Palace in Kamptee, will also be under tight security with approximately 500 officers assigned to ensure the safety of attendees.
As part of the broader Dussehra celebrations, Ravan Dahan events are scheduled at 64 different locations across Nagpur, including popular sites like Kasturchand Park and Tiranga Chowk. The police are coordinating with local authorities to ensure that celebrations proceed smoothly in various neighborhoods, including those under the jurisdiction of Wadi and Pardi police stations.
To facilitate the influx of visitors, parking has been organized at multiple locations, including Dharampeth Science College and Bajaj Nagar volleyball ground. Additionally, traffic diversions will be implemented around Deekshabhoomi to manage congestion effectively. Residents and visitors are encouraged to plan their travels in advance and adhere to instructions from traffic police during this festive period.
