In Nagpur, a significant number of voter notices issued under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls remain undelivered, with 3.94 lakh notices still pending. This situation raises alarms about whether voters will have adequate time to complete necessary verification processes ahead of the upcoming elections.

The latest report indicates that out of 8.66 lakh notices generated, only 4.71 lakh have been successfully delivered, which amounts to 54.45% of the total. The remaining 3.94 lakh notices, constituting 45.55%, are yet to reach the intended recipients. The Election Commission has responded by extending the deadline for addressing claims and objections related to this exercise until November 10.

Delivery rates vary significantly across different constituencies in Nagpur. For instance, Nagpur North has the highest backlog with 66,623 notices still undelivered, followed by Nagpur West with 59,760 and Hingna with 57,044 pending notices. Collectively, these three constituencies account for a substantial portion of the undelivered notices. In contrast, Nagpur South West has managed to deliver 74,511 out of 89,352 notices, while Nagpur South has only delivered 28,372 of the 76,464 notices issued.

The report also highlights that 47,209 hearings have been conducted, but many cases remain unresolved. Specifically, 2,92,914 cases have missed their hearing dates, and 4,943 cases have surpassed their rescheduled hearing dates. At the district election officer level, 65,054 cases are still pending, with a significant number of them overdue by more than five days. The notices pertain to voters whose records were identified as unmapped or containing logical discrepancies during the SIR process, necessitating document submissions and hearings for resolution.

Looking ahead, the revised schedule outlines critical deadlines: applications and objections must be filed by October 26, with the final date for resolving claims set for November 10, followed by the publication of the final electoral roll on November 16. The next few weeks will be pivotal for election officials and voters alike, as timely notice delivery and hearing completions are essential for ensuring that eligible voters can rectify discrepancies before the final roll is published.
