In Mysuru, a free anti-rabies vaccination campaign organized by People For Animals (PFA) took place from September 27 to 29, coinciding with World Rabies Day on September 28. Over the course of three days, a total of 107 animals were vaccinated, with 102 of those being community dogs, highlighting the initiative's focus on protecting vulnerable animal populations.
The vaccination efforts were concentrated at the PFA Mysuru Centre in Bogadi on the first two days, where free vaccinations were administered. The campaign concluded on September 29 with a field vaccination drive that targeted various neighborhoods across Mysuru. The outreach began early in the morning, starting at 8 am, with the PFA team equipped with vaccination supplies and educational materials to promote rabies prevention.
The field team, which included Dr. Kiran, Paravet Ratan, and animal handlers Manoj and Lal Singh, covered numerous areas such as Vijayanagar Water Tank, Mahadeshwara Layout, and Gokulam. Local animal feeders and caretakers played a crucial role in assisting the team by helping to locate and safely approach community dogs, ensuring that the vaccination process was efficient and effective.
This initiative not only aimed to vaccinate community dogs but also sought to raise awareness about rabies prevention. Rabies is a preventable disease, and vaccinating community dogs is essential for protecting animal health and reducing the risk of rabies transmission to humans.
Looking ahead, the PFA plans to continue its efforts in animal health and community education, with future campaigns aimed at further reducing rabies incidence and promoting responsible pet ownership in Mysuru.
