3

Lifestyle changes can effectively manage back pain.

In light of World Spine Day on October 16, healthcare professionals at CARE Hospitals in Hyderabad have raised concerns about the increasing incidence of back and neck pain among commuters. They attribute this rise to long daily commutes, traffic congestion, and the poor condition of roads, which are often riddled with potholes.

The specialists at CARE Hospitals have observed that prolonged sitting and inadequate posture, particularly during extended hours of work at desks or on laptops, can lead to significant strain on the spine. Additionally, the physical jolts experienced by two-wheeler riders and cab drivers on uneven surfaces contribute to worsening spinal conditions.

Dr. Randhir Kumar, Clinical Director and Senior Neurosurgeon, highlighted that the strain from daily commutes and continuous sitting can result in muscle stiffness and discomfort. He emphasized the importance of recognizing these symptoms early to prevent further complications.

Dr. Praveen Goparaju, a Senior Spine Surgeon, noted that low back pain is a leading cause of disability worldwide. He pointed out that while many cases can be severe, they can often be managed effectively through lifestyle modifications, proper seating posture, and physiotherapy, rather than resorting to surgical interventions.

In light of these findings, doctors are urging citizens to pay attention to persistent discomfort. They recommend taking regular movement breaks, ensuring correct ergonomic alignment while sitting, and seeking prompt medical advice for any spinal symptoms to maintain better spine health.
