A significant three-day conference titled 'Meeting the challenges of infectious diseases in a changing world' commenced at the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) on Wednesday. This event aims to address the pressing issues related to infectious diseases and has attracted a diverse group of participants, including researchers, clinicians, public health experts, policymakers, and industry representatives from 20 different countries.
The conference is designed to tackle critical global health priorities, such as emerging and re-emerging pathogens, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), pandemic preparedness, disease surveillance, diagnostics, therapeutics, vaccination strategies, and the one health approach. These topics are increasingly relevant as the world faces new health challenges and the need for effective responses grows.
During the inauguration session, MAHE's Vice-Chancellor, Sharath K. Rao, highlighted the necessity of enhancing global health security in light of the threats posed by infectious diseases. He emphasized that a collaborative approach is essential, involving various fields such as medicine, pharmacy, engineering, data science, behavioral sciences, and public health policy. This interdisciplinary collaboration is vital for translating research into practical public health solutions.
The implications of this conference extend beyond academia, as it aims to foster partnerships that can lead to improved health outcomes on a global scale. By bringing together experts from various sectors, the event seeks to strengthen the collective response to infectious diseases, which remain a significant threat to public health worldwide.
Looking ahead, the conference will continue to facilitate discussions and collaborations among participants, with the goal of developing actionable strategies to combat infectious diseases. As the event progresses, attendees will share insights and findings that could shape future research and policy initiatives in this critical area of health.
