The Ayush Ministry of India marked World Menopause Day 2026 by underscoring the critical importance of awareness and preventive healthcare for women undergoing menopause. The ministry aims to enhance understanding and research into menopausal health through the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), focusing on physical health, emotional well-being, and overall quality of life.

Menopause is a natural biological phase characterized by the permanent cessation of menstruation, typically occurring between the ages of 45 and 55. This transition can bring about a variety of physical and psychological changes, including irregular periods, hot flashes, vaginal dryness, sleep disturbances, mood swings, joint pain, and anxiety. The Ayush Ministry's statement highlighted that Ayurveda discusses these symptoms in the context of Rajonivritti, emphasizing their recognition and management as vital for women's health.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the transition into menopause is gradual, often starting with changes in the menstrual cycle. The perimenopause phase lasts several years, extending from the initial signs until one year after the last menstrual period, impacting physical, emotional, mental, and social well-being. The ministry noted that both hormonal and non-hormonal treatments can alleviate perimenopausal symptoms.

Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of the Ayush Ministry, stressed the need for ongoing attention to women’s health throughout all life stages, particularly during menopause. He stated that Ayurveda provides a comprehensive framework that emphasizes prevention, lifestyle practices, and personalized care. The ministry is committed to enhancing research and scientific validation in this field while raising awareness about women's health.

Professor Rabinarayan Acharya, Director General of CCRAS, remarked that Ayurveda views menopause as a natural transformation rather than a disorder. He mentioned that through Rasayana therapies, dietary advice, and mental well-being practices, women can navigate this phase with balance. The CCRAS focuses on validating traditional formulations like Ashokarista and Amalaki Rasayana for their effectiveness in supporting hormonal balance and emotional resilience. The ministry concluded by calling for greater awareness and timely care to help women confidently manage menopause and maintain their health.
