NSE and BSE will observe a holiday on October 20, 2026, for Dussehra, marking the second trading holiday this month.
NSE and BSE will be closed on October 20 for Dussehra.
A total of 16 stock market holidays are scheduled for 2026, with 12 already observed.
The next market holiday after Dussehra will be on November 10 for Diwali.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will not conduct trading on October 20, 2026, in observance of Dussehra. This closure marks the second holiday for the exchanges within the month, following the recent break on October 2 for Gandhi Jayanti.
In total, the stock market has earmarked 16 holidays for the year 2026, out of which 12 have already passed. Following the Dussehra holiday, trading will be suspended on three additional occasions before the year concludes. The next scheduled holiday will occur on November 10 for Diwali-Balipratipada.
Additionally, the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will also halt trading during the morning session on October 20, but it will resume operations in the evening. According to the MCX's annual trading calendar, it has designated 16 holidays for 2026, which include both full and partial-day closures. Conversely, the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) will remain closed for both trading sessions on that day.
Notably, four significant holidays in 2026 coincide with weekends, which means they will not result in extra market closures. These include Mahashivratri on February 15, Eid-Ul-Fitr on March 21, Independence Day on August 15, and Diwali Laxmi Pujan on November 8. Although Diwali Laxmi Pujan falls on a Sunday, the exchanges will still hold the traditional Muhurat Trading session on that day.
Looking ahead, the final market holiday of 2026 is set for December 25, coinciding with Christmas, which falls on a Friday this year, creating a long weekend for traders and investors alike.
