Silver Prices Plummet to Rs 1.9 Lakh from Rs 4.2 Lakh Amid Market Turmoil
Silver's dramatic decline raises concerns as prices drop significantly due to global economic pressures.
Silver prices in India fell from Rs 4.2 lakh to Rs 1.9 lakh per kg.
Gold futures also dropped, hitting a low of $3,989 per ounce.
Market volatility and rising energy prices are impacting precious metals.
Silver prices have seen a staggering decline, plummeting from Rs 4.2 lakh per kilogram to Rs 1.9 lakh in India. This drop is attributed to a combination of factors including rising energy costs, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, and the looming threat of interest rate hikes. The situation has created a bearish sentiment in the market, affecting both silver and gold prices significantly.
Historically, silver has been known for its volatility, particularly in response to industrial demand fluctuations. Currently, silver has reached an all-time low of $53.8 per ounce, with no signs of recovery. This sharp decline from previous highs of $120 has raised alarms among investors and analysts alike, as the precious metal's industrial applications make it particularly susceptible to market shifts.
Recent reports indicate that gold futures have also faced a downturn, dropping to a low of $3,989.10 per ounce before a slight recovery to $4,026. However, gold remains in a bearish territory, similar to silver. According to Kaynat Chainwala, AVP of Commodity Research at Kotak Neo, the ongoing market stress has resulted in increased selling pressure on both metals, with silver being more vulnerable due to its industrial demand.
The implications of these price drops are significant for the Indian market and the global economy. If silver prices fall below $50 per ounce, it is likely that domestic prices will continue to decline, potentially dropping below Rs 1.9 lakh per kg. Investors are closely monitoring the upcoming Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting scheduled for October 27 and 28, as any pause in interest rate hikes could provide some relief to precious metals.
Looking ahead, the outlook for silver and gold remains uncertain. The potential for continued geopolitical tensions, particularly in the Middle East, could further exacerbate the situation. Rising crude oil prices are already reviving inflation concerns, which may lead to prolonged higher interest rates in the U.S. market. As such, both silver and gold are likely to remain under pressure in the near future, with investors advised to stay vigilant amid the ongoing volatility.
