Prices reflect a modest increase in gold demand amid global economic uncertainty.
On October 30, gold prices in India experienced a minor decline, dropping by approximately 0.39% in the domestic futures market during early trading hours. The MCX Gold futures for December 4 were recorded at ₹142,351 per 10 grams, while MCX Silver futures for the same date fell by 0.27%, settling at ₹1,88,943 per kg around noon.
In the retail market, gold is available in two primary purities: 24-karat and 22-karat. The former is recognized as the purest form, while the latter is often preferred for jewelry due to its enhanced durability. As of today, the retail price for 24-karat gold is ₹142,210 per 10 grams, and 22-karat gold is priced at ₹130,359 per 10 grams. Additionally, the price of 999 fine silver is reported at ₹187,530 per kg, according to data from the Indian Bullion Association (IBA).
The price variations across major cities are noteworthy. In Mumbai, 24-karat gold is priced at ₹141,960 per 10 grams, while 22-karat gold is at ₹130,130. In New Delhi, the prices are slightly lower, with 24-karat gold at ₹141,710 and 22-karat at ₹129,901. Other cities like Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Chennai also show similar pricing trends, reflecting regional market dynamics.
The past year has seen gold prices surge significantly, with an increase of over 75% since 1979, driven by safe-haven demand amid global economic uncertainties. Silver, on the other hand, has seen even sharper increases, with prices rising from approximately ₹78,600 per kg in 2023-2024 to over ₹240,000 per kg by October 2026, fueled by strong demand and currency fluctuations.
Looking ahead, consumers should be aware that jewelers often add making charges, taxes, and GST, which can elevate the final purchase price. As the festive season approaches, market analysts anticipate continued fluctuations in gold and silver prices, influenced by demand trends and global economic conditions.
