The National Stock Exchange (NSE) is preparing for its highly anticipated initial public offering (IPO), which is expected to raise approximately ₹30,000 crore. This substantial amount positions the NSE IPO to potentially break records set by previous major public offerings, including the Hyundai Motor IPO and the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) IPO.

The Hyundai Motor India IPO, which launched in October 2024, raised around ₹27,870 crore, while the LIC IPO, which took place in May 2022, garnered over ₹21,000 crore. The NSE IPO, scheduled to open for subscription on October 15, 2024, and close on October 17, will consist entirely of an offer for sale (OFS) of up to 149 million equity shares, representing about 6% of the exchange's paid-up equity capital.

Market analysts are estimating that the NSE could achieve a market capitalization exceeding ₹5 lakh crore, potentially placing it among the top 10 most valuable companies listed in India. The final issue size and valuation are still pending confirmation, but the IPO is anticipated to surpass the previous records held by Hyundai and LIC.

The IPO process is set to begin with the book-building phase on September 11, which will help gauge investor interest and determine the final pricing. The price band for the shares is expected to be announced around September 15, with estimates suggesting a share price of approximately ₹2,000, aligning with current grey-market levels.

As the NSE prepares for this significant market debut, the implications for investors and the broader financial landscape in India are substantial. The successful launch of the NSE IPO could invigorate market confidence and attract further investments into the Indian stock market, setting a precedent for future public offerings in the country.
