In a significant market development, the Nifty 50 index closed at 22,520, marking a gain of 289 points this week. This surge ends an eight-week losing streak, the longest since 2001, and adds over Rs 4 lakh crore to the total market capitalization, which now stands at nearly Rs 465 lakh crore. The Sensex also saw a substantial increase, rising over 879 points to reach 72,472.
The recent performance of the Nifty indicates a potential recovery, with technical indicators suggesting a shift in momentum. The index formed a Doji candlestick on the weekly chart and a Bullish Harami pattern on the daily chart, emerging near a critical support zone defined by the 200-week EMA and the lower trendline of a rising channel. However, while these formations hint at stabilization, confirmation through consistent bullish momentum is necessary for a sustained reversal.
Key support levels are identified between 22,200 and 22,250, with a decisive break below 22,200 potentially reviving the downtrend. Conversely, overcoming the resistance band at 22,750-22,800 could lead to further gains, possibly extending towards 23,100 and 23,300 in the short term. The coming trading sessions will be crucial in determining whether Nifty can maintain this upward trajectory.
In sector-specific performance, the Nifty IT Index has been consolidating between 27,613 and 28,777, showing signs of improvement but still trading below key moving averages. TCS's recent earnings report has led to a pullback, with immediate resistance at the 20-week EMA zone of Rs 2,255-2,260. Meanwhile, Bank Nifty outperformed with a 1.45% gain, although it remains below key moving averages, indicating a cautious outlook.
Looking ahead, traders are advised to monitor stocks such as Radico Khaitan, Karur Vysya Bank, ICICI General Insurance, and Nykaa, which are showing positive technical signals. The Nifty Private Bank sector is expected to outperform in the near term, while other sectors like CPSE, Oil & Gas, and FMCG may continue to underperform.
