Nifty Faces Crucial Test at 22,200 Amid Oil Surge and Fed Meeting
As Nifty extends its losing streak, analysts highlight 22,200 as a key support level amid rising crude oil prices and upcoming Fed policy decisions.
Nifty index dropped 87 points to close at 22,600, marking four consecutive days of losses.
Crude oil prices surged past $114, raising concerns over supply disruptions and inflation.
Upcoming earnings reports and the US Federal Reserve's policy meeting are pivotal for market direction.
The Nifty index continued its downward trend on Friday, closing at 22,600 after a decline of 87 points. This marks the fourth consecutive session of losses for the benchmark index, which opened higher but quickly reversed course, falling over 400 points from its peak during the day. Despite some buying activity in the latter half, the index's performance reflects ongoing market volatility.
In the broader context, the Nifty has faced significant pressure, with a weekly decline of 2.36%. The Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 indices reported even steeper losses, falling 5.6% and over 7% respectively, the latter marking its sharpest weekly drop since February 2025. All sectoral indices closed lower, with notable declines in Metal, Consumer Durables, and Realty sectors.
The rupee also weakened, closing at 94.94 against the US dollar, influenced by rising crude oil prices and a stronger dollar. Crude oil has reached a five-month high, driven by geopolitical tensions and concerns over supply disruptions in the Middle East. Analysts are closely monitoring these developments, as they could exacerbate inflationary pressures in India.
Looking ahead, the market is poised for further volatility, with key events on the horizon including the US Federal Reserve's policy meeting on October 27-28 and the upcoming Q2 earnings reports from major companies such as Paytm and Maruti Suzuki. The scheduled IPO listing of Jio Platforms on October 28 is also anticipated to impact market sentiment positively.
Technical analysts are highlighting the 22,200 mark as a critical support level for Nifty. A breach below this could lead to further declines, while resistance is noted at 22,800 and 23,175. Investors are advised to remain cautious, particularly in light of the uncertain global economic environment and rising crude oil prices, which could influence market dynamics significantly in the near term.
