On October 14, the Nifty 50 index experienced a decline of 99 points, settling at 22,623, while the Bank Nifty dropped by 165 points to close at 55,316. This downturn comes amid a broader market weakness, although the market breadth on the NSE remained positive, with more shares advancing than declining. Analysts predict that the Nifty 50 is likely to continue its consolidation phase, with immediate support around the 22,600–22,500 range and key resistance at 22,800.

The Nifty 50 has been trading within a narrow range of approximately 630 points over the last 11 sessions, following a sharp correction. This sideways movement has resulted in a narrowing gap between the index and its 20-day exponential moving average (EMA), indicating a potential mean reversion. However, the index remains below its key moving averages, which are trending downward, and momentum indicators suggest a lack of clear direction.

Sudeep Shah from SBI Securities highlighted that the 22,800–22,850 zone will serve as an immediate hurdle for the Nifty, while the 22,300–22,250 area remains crucial for support. A decisive breakout above resistance or a breakdown below support could signal significant directional movement. Rupak De from LKP Securities noted that the Nifty faced resistance at the 200-period simple moving average (SMA) and indicated that the current rally should be viewed as a relief rally rather than a sustained uptrend.

Meanwhile, the Bank Nifty has shown relative strength despite recent consolidation, forming a bearish flag pattern. Currently, it is trading below its key moving averages, which act as resistance. Experts suggest that the 56,000–56,100 zone will be a significant hurdle, while immediate support is at 54,800–54,700. A decisive move beyond these levels could lead to the next trending move in the index.

Looking ahead, market participants are advised to remain cautious. The Nifty's performance above 22,800 could strengthen bullish momentum, while a drop below 22,400 may increase downside risks. For the Bank Nifty, maintaining levels above 54,800 is crucial for a positive outlook, but a decisive move above 56,000 is necessary to confirm further upside potential.
