Mercedes-Benz has officially launched the GLC Electric in India, starting at a price of ₹78.50 lakh (ex-showroom). This model is notable for being the smallest electric vehicle offered by the brand in the Indian market and is assembled locally at their facility near Pune. Bookings for the GLC Electric commenced in October, and initial reviews have highlighted its performance and features.
The GLC Electric is available in the GLC400 variant, powered by a robust 94kWh battery pack. It offers an impressive WLTP range of 711 kilometers on a single charge. Mercedes-Benz claims that just 10 minutes on a DC fast charger can provide an additional 300 kilometers of range. The dual-motor setup delivers a powerful output of 482.4 bhp and 800 Nm of torque, positioning it as one of the most powerful vehicles in its segment. The SUV measures 4.85 meters in length, with a wheelbase of 2.97 meters, making it one of the largest in its class.
In terms of features, the GLC Electric is equipped with the MBUX hyperscreen, Burmester sound system with Dolby Atmos, ambient lighting, and a panoramic glass roof. Additional amenities include front seat ventilation and massage functions, a comprehensive LED lighting package, power-folding rear seats, wireless charging pads, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The vehicle also offers a spacious boot capacity of 570 liters, complemented by a 128-liter front trunk. The design includes an AMG package featuring an electric grille and 20-inch AMG wheels, enhancing its sporty aesthetic.
The GLC Electric faces competition from the upcoming BMW iX3, set to launch in 2027. This mid-size SUV from BMW is expected to offer similar specifications and features, intensifying the competition in the electric vehicle market. With over 1,000 bookings already secured, the GLC Electric is sold out until March 2027, indicating strong demand for this new entrant in the Indian automotive landscape.
Looking ahead, deliveries of the GLC Electric have commenced today, marking a significant step for Mercedes-Benz in expanding its electric vehicle offerings in India. The company aims to capitalize on the growing interest in electric mobility, and with the GLC Electric, they are poised to attract a new segment of environmentally conscious consumers.
