Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) India has announced the launch of the locally assembled Land Rover Defender, with prices beginning at Rs. 99 lakh (ex-showroom). This new offering is available in three different trims, all based on the 110 model, while the 90 and 130 versions remain available as Completely Built Units (CBUs).

The locally assembled Defender features three powertrain options, including a 2.0-litre petrol engine and two larger units: a 3.0-litre petrol and a 3.0-litre diesel engine. The 2.0-litre variant delivers 296bhp and 400Nm of torque, while the 3.0-litre petrol engine produces 394bhp and 550Nm. The diesel variant is tuned to generate 346bhp and a robust 700Nm of torque. All engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, ensuring a smooth driving experience.

Previously, the CBU versions of the Defender 110 started at Rs. 1.35 crore, with additional options potentially increasing the price by up to Rs. 17 lakh. The shift to local assembly has allowed JLR to introduce up to 29 standard features across the new range, contributing to a significant reduction in pricing for consumers.

The pricing for the locally assembled Defender variants is as follows: the Defender 110 2.0 Petrol X-Dynamic HSE is priced at Rs. 99 lakh, while the 3.0 Petrol and 3.0 Diesel X-Dynamic HSE variants are available for Rs. 1.18 crore each. This competitive pricing strategy aims to attract a broader customer base in the premium SUV segment.

Looking ahead, JLR plans to continue expanding its offerings in India, leveraging local assembly to enhance affordability and accessibility. The introduction of the Defender is expected to bolster JLR's presence in the competitive SUV market, appealing to both existing fans and new customers alike.
