In an effort to resolve ongoing disputes regarding wealth distribution within the Venu Srinivasan family, Lakshmi Venu is reportedly advocating for a settlement approach that mirrors the successful partition of the TVS family assets in 2020. This partition, which involved a harmonious division of wealth among the various branches of the TVS family, is viewed as a potential model for the current situation involving the Venu Srinivasan group, which includes prominent entities such as TVS Motor and Sundaram Clayton.
The 2020 partition of the TVS family's assets was characterized by mutual agreement among family members, who evaluated all assets and compensated each other accordingly. However, the current discussions within the Venu Srinivasan family have reached a standstill, primarily due to the reluctance of Venu Srinivasan and his son Sudarshan to engage in formal negotiations. Sources indicate that multiple attempts by Lakshmi to initiate discussions have gone unanswered, leading to frustration within the family.
Insiders reveal that Venu and Sudarshan believe a family settlement was already established through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2024. However, this document, which has been reviewed, does not address financial arrangements and primarily outlines brand rights and non-compete clauses. The MoU delineates control over various business sectors, including automobiles and financial services, but does not resolve the underlying disputes regarding ownership and wealth distribution.
The conflict reportedly escalated when Lakshmi discovered a statutory filing by TVS Holdings in April 2025, which indicated significant ownership stakes favoring Sudarshan. This revelation shocked Lakshmi, who felt that such decisions regarding family wealth should involve collective discussion. While she has not pursued legal action, she remains committed to resolving the matter internally.
In a bid to facilitate dialogue, Mallika Srinivasan, the mother of Lakshmi and Sudarshan, is actively seeking to bring the family together. She advocates for a fair and equitable resolution and is open to involving a neutral mediator to assist in the discussions. Mallika emphasizes the importance of addressing not only financial aspects but also ownership rights within the family businesses. As of now, TVS Holdings has a market capitalization of ₹23,180 crore, with TVS Motor valued at ₹1,83,621 crore and Sundaram Clayton at approximately ₹2,702 crore. Despite the ongoing tensions, none of the family members have publicly commented on the situation.
