Kaizad Bharucha to Depart HDFC Bank by December 31, 2026
After over 30 years with HDFC Bank, Deputy Managing Director Kaizad Bharucha will step down at the year's end, following a leadership transition.
Kaizad Bharucha has served HDFC Bank for more than three decades.
He was a candidate for the MD & CEO position but was not selected.
His departure is part of a broader leadership change at the bank.
Kaizad Bharucha, the Deputy Managing Director of HDFC Bank, has announced his resignation effective December 31, 2026, marking the end of a notable 30-year tenure with the institution. This decision was disclosed in a filing made by the bank on Saturday, highlighting Bharucha's significant contributions during his lengthy career.
Bharucha, aged 60, was considered a strong candidate for the bank's top executive role, with the board previously recommending him for the position of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD & CEO). However, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) appointed Anup Bagchi, the CEO of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance and an experienced figure from the ICICI Group, to take over the role starting October 27, 2026.
In the official statement, HDFC Bank confirmed that Bharucha had requested to end his service, which was accepted by the bank's Nomination and Remuneration Committee and the board, pending RBI approval. The bank acknowledged Bharucha's pivotal role in developing its credit architecture, which has been recognized as one of its key strengths.
Bharucha joined HDFC Bank in October 1995 and has been instrumental in the bank's corporate lending division over the last decade. Recently, he also managed some retail operations while continuing to oversee wholesale banking. His promotion to Deputy Managing Director occurred in 2023, filling a vacancy that had existed since 2018.
Bharucha's exit is significant as it coincides with a leadership transition at HDFC Bank, which may influence the bank's strategic direction moving forward. As the bank prepares for this change, stakeholders will be watching closely to see how new leadership will shape its future operations.
