Infosys Q2 Earnings Miss: UBS Sees 23% Upside, HSBC Warns on Margins
Following a disappointing Q2 report, UBS and HSBC provide differing perspectives on Infosys' stock outlook.
Infosys reported a 6.2% rise in net profit but missed operating expectations.
UBS maintains a Buy rating with a target price of Rs 1,415, while HSBC holds at Rs 1,110.
The company cut its FY27 revenue growth guidance to 1-2%, marking its lowest forecast in seven years.
Infosys has faced a challenging fiscal second quarter, reporting a net profit increase of 6.2% year-on-year, yet falling short of market expectations in terms of operating performance. The company announced a revenue growth of 10.7% for the July-September period but simultaneously lowered its fiscal year 2027 revenue growth guidance to a range of 1-2%, down from the previous estimate of 1.5-3%. This adjustment marks the lowest growth forecast for Infosys in seven years, raising concerns among investors.
UBS and HSBC have issued contrasting assessments of Infosys following the earnings report. UBS has retained its Buy rating on the stock, setting a target price of Rs 1,415, which suggests a potential upside of approximately 23% from the current trading levels. The brokerage noted that while the Q2 performance was below expectations, the company's long-term prospects remain positive, particularly with its recent large deals.
Conversely, HSBC has adopted a more cautious stance, maintaining a Hold rating with a target price of Rs 1,110, indicating a potential downside of about 4%. HSBC expressed concerns regarding the impact of wage increases on operating margins, which could further strain the company's profitability in the latter half of FY27. Despite these concerns, HSBC acknowledged the significance of Infosys' $2 billion mega deal, which could contribute positively to revenue growth in FY28.
The overall market reaction to Infosys' earnings report has been mixed. The stock closed slightly higher at Rs 1,153.80 on Friday, but it has experienced a decline of 28.2% year-to-date, compared to a 13.6% drop in the Nifty 50 index. The company's market capitalization stands at approximately Rs 4.7 lakh crore, reflecting investor sentiment amid the recent earnings miss.
Looking ahead, Infosys will need to navigate the challenges posed by its revised revenue guidance and potential margin pressures. Analysts will be closely monitoring the company's performance in the upcoming quarters, particularly in light of its significant investments in AI services, which have shown promising growth. The next earnings report will be crucial for assessing the effectiveness of Infosys' strategies to regain investor confidence and stabilize its financial outlook.
