On October 26, 2026, the Indian stock market is projected to open negatively, with GIFT Nifty suggesting a start around 22,560. This follows a week of cautious trading as global markets react to geopolitical uncertainties and fluctuating oil prices.
The previous trading day saw the Indian equity benchmarks, Sensex and Nifty 50, close lower amid broad-based selling. The Nifty 50 fell by 87.65 points, or 0.39%, to settle at 22,600, while the BSE Sensex dropped 125.56 points, or 0.17%, ending at 73,123.83. Analysts attribute this decline to a combination of elevated crude oil prices and a lack of strong global cues.
Hariselvan Radhakrishnan, CEO of HST Wealth, noted that the Indian market is likely to remain cautious, reflecting the mixed signals from Asian markets and the recent downturn on Wall Street. He emphasized the importance of watching central bank decisions and corporate earnings that will shape market sentiment in the coming days.
Ajit Mishra from Religare Broking highlighted that the Sensex has lost 2.15% over the past week, indicating a significant correction. He pointed out that the immediate support for the index lies between 72,300 and 72,500, while resistance is expected around 73,500 to 73,800. The volatility observed during the last session, with the index fluctuating significantly, underscores the current market instability.
Looking ahead, analysts suggest that the Nifty 50 is testing critical support levels, particularly near the 200-Week EMA. Hitesh Tailor from Choice Broking mentioned that the index's performance in the upcoming sessions will be crucial to determine if it can maintain above these support levels. Investors are advised to remain vigilant as the market navigates through earnings reports and central bank announcements in the near future.
