Indian shares likely to open lower following US inflation data.
Foreign investors have withdrawn a record $32.7 billion from Indian stocks this year.
Wipro's earnings report is highly anticipated amid fluctuating market conditions.
On October 15, Indian stock markets are poised for a lower opening, influenced by a surge in US consumer price inflation that has heightened expectations for another interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve. This development is causing concern among investors, particularly as it makes emerging markets like India less appealing to foreign investors.
The recent inflation data from the US has led to a significant sell-off in Indian equities, marking 14 consecutive sessions of outflows, which have now reached a staggering $32.7 billion for the year. The GIFT Nifty futures indicated a drop to 22,606.5 at 7:52 a.m. IST, suggesting a negative start for the benchmark Nifty 50, which closed at 22,622.7 the previous day.
Market analysts note that the unexpected rise in US inflation is likely to tighten global monetary conditions, creating a negative sentiment for risk assets, particularly in emerging markets. Additionally, Brent crude prices are hovering around $104.5 per barrel, as investors weigh the impact of geopolitical tensions on supply against US efforts to reduce shipping costs.
In the domestic market, investors are turning their attention to corporate earnings, with Wipro set to announce its second-quarter results later today. Following HCL Tech's better-than-expected earnings earlier this week, there is heightened interest in Wipro's performance regarding technology spending and profit margins.
Looking ahead, robust activity in the primary market, including Jio Platforms' announcement of a $3.2 billion IPO, could divert liquidity from the secondary market, potentially limiting short-term gains for stocks. Other notable corporate updates include a significant stake acquisition in IDBI Bank by Canada's Fairfax Financial Holdings and various earnings reports from other major companies, indicating a mixed outlook for the market.
