Swati Bhargava, the co-founder of CashKaro and EarnKaro, has recently shared her remarkable journey of entrepreneurship, revealing the personal health challenges she faced while building her businesses. In a video posted on X, she recounted her transition from a successful career in investment banking to launching her ventures alongside her husband, Rohan Bhargava. Despite battling serious health issues, she continued to pursue her entrepreneurial goals.
Before starting her business, Swati worked at Goldman Sachs for five years. However, her professional achievements were overshadowed by her declining health. She disclosed that her kidney function had plummeted to a mere 3-4% during a critical phase of her startup's fundraising efforts. This revelation gained attention when Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma tweeted about her resilience, noting her commitment to raising funds even in such dire circumstances.
Swati's health struggles began two decades ago when she was diagnosed with a kidney condition during her first year at the London School of Economics. Despite her diagnosis, she persevered in her education and career, eventually joining Goldman Sachs in London. Remarkably, she managed to secure a ₹130-crore Series C funding round shortly before undergoing a kidney transplant, showcasing her determination and dedication to her business.
The impact of her journey extends beyond personal health; it serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices entrepreneurs often make. While the narrative of startup success typically focuses on funding rounds and growth metrics, the underlying personal challenges often remain hidden. Swati's story sheds light on the emotional and physical toll that can accompany the pursuit of business success.
Following her transplant, for which her mother was the donor, Swati described the experience as transformative. She expressed deep gratitude towards her family, her team, and the supporters who stood by her during this challenging period. As she continues to navigate her entrepreneurial journey, her story inspires many to recognize the resilience required in the face of adversity.
