Adani Power has announced a remarkable 134% increase in its consolidated net profit for the second quarter of FY27, totaling ₹6,919 crore, compared to ₹2,953 crore in the same quarter last year. This significant growth reflects the company's robust performance amid rising power demand in India.
The surge in profit was accompanied by a 45% rise in revenue from operations, which climbed to ₹19,439 crore from ₹13,457 crore year-on-year. The company's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) also saw a substantial increase of 60%, reaching ₹8,231 crore, up from ₹5,150 crore in the previous year’s quarter. This improvement in financial metrics is attributed to enhanced operational efficiency and a favorable market environment.
CEO S B Khyalia highlighted the company's commitment to profitability and project execution, emphasizing the importance of reliable power supply to meet India's growing energy needs. He noted that geopolitical factors and climate uncertainties have underscored the necessity of domestic coal-based power in fulfilling long-term electricity requirements.
Adani Power is actively pursuing its capacity expansion plan, aiming to add 23,720 MW of new thermal power capacity. The company is in advanced stages of executing major projects, including the 1,320 MW Korba Phase-II and the 1,600 MW Mahan Phase-II thermal power projects. The first unit of the Korba project has already been synchronized with the grid, with commissioning expected soon.
Looking ahead, India's overall power demand has risen by 11.5% year-on-year to 502 billion units in Q2 FY27, driven by economic growth and a weak monsoon. This trend is likely to continue, with Adani Power positioned to play a crucial role in meeting the increasing energy requirements of the country as it progresses with its expansion initiatives.
